PT DIPLOMA

The PT Diploma includes both the Gym Instructor and the Personal Trainer (Practitioner) qualifications. They are completed in order. The general time-frame for completion of the PT Diploma is 3-9 months depending upon student commitment and time availability.

Gym Instructor course content and delivery/assessment method

The Gym Instructor course consists of 5 units:

  1. Anatomy and Physiology

  2. Providing a Positive Customer Experience

  3. Lifestyle and Health Awareness Management

  4. Gym-based Programme Delivery and Preparation

  5. Gym-based Programme Delivery and Professional Instruction

 

Taught element:

You will receive 5 taught days during which you will learn all practical elements of the course. We teach you the movement patterns of: Squat, Hinge, Press, Pull, Rotation and Anti-rotation. You will become proficient at all of the major freeweight lifts and will learn how to coach these, plus resistance machines and cardiovascular exercise to clients. Gym experience is useful - but not essential!

Distance learning element:

You will also receive learning resources including manuals or elearning (extra cost) that give you the knowledge that you need to back up your practical ability.

Assessments:

  1. Anatomy and physiology multiple choice exam

  2. Online self-marking worksheets

  3. A Learner Achievement Record that includes a number of fitness case studies and worksheets

  4. 3 practical assessments

Course duration:

You have up to 12 months to complete your course. However, it is common for students to complete their Gym Instructor qualification in 2-3 months.

Personal Trainer course content and delivery/assessment method

The Personal Trainer course consists of 6 units:

  1. Applied Anatomy and Physiology

  2. Client Motivation and Interaction

  3. Bespoke Exercise Programme Design

  4. Programme Instruction and Communication Techniques

  5. Nutrition

  6. Business Skills for a PT

 

Taught element:

You will receive 10 taught days during which you will learn all practical elements of the course. We will teach you advanced physical screening and training modalities and methods so that you can effectively programme exercise for a range of clients.

Distance learning element:

You will also receive learning resources including manuals or elearning (extra cost) that give you the knowledge that you need to back up your practical ability.

Assessments:

  1. Anatomy and physiology multiple choice exam

  2. Nutrition multiple choice exam

  3. Online self-marking worksheets

  4. A Learner Achievement Record that includes a 12 week 'real life' case study and worksheets

  5. Practical assessments

Course duration:

You have up to 12 months to complete your course. However, it is common for students to complete their Personal Trainer qualification in 3-6 months.
